Casa da Árvore is a small refuge at Praia do Rosa, full of charm, surrounded by nature, designed for the well-being of guests and their connection with the place. Not a hotel, not a conventional guesthouse. Two houses on a hillside of over 1,500 m² of forest, each designed so that a group can create its own moment, as a family, among friends or as a couple.

We built two small wooden houses that live side by side, on the same hillside, but with opposite characters. One is bright, tall, of bamboo, the sun house. The other is low, warm, with a ceiling of whole eucalyptus logs, the fire cabin. The sea is 300 metres away, along a five-minute trail.

We welcome you in person, with a welcome tea and the village map. We leave the kitchens ready, and point you to the Vila baker, the fishmonger at Imbituba port, the market on Wednesdays and Saturdays, the right trail for sunrise. The rest, the slow stop, the silence of mid-afternoon, is up to you.

The larger of the two, three bedrooms, open mezzanine and deck facing the afternoon sun. The living room fills the whole volume, with a six-metre bamboo ceiling and large windows onto the forest. Made for the full family, the group of friends who rents a week, the long table that grows in summer.

Praia do Rosa

A bay among the most beautiful in the world.

Rosa is a bay sheltered by two headlands on the southern coast of Santa Catarina, the only Brazilian beach in the Club des Plus Belles Baies du Monde (Berlin, 2003) and the National Capital of the Southern Right Whale. The southern rights return from July to November, often within 100 metres of the coast. Surf runs from April to November.

Praia da Vila is the natural school, with gentler waves. Rosa Norte is the wilder point, for those who already read the sea. April to November brings consistent swell; in winter, the wetsuit comes out.

Southern right whales

July to November

From July to November, the southern right whales return to the coast to raise their calves, often within 100 metres of the beach, visible to the naked eye from the headlands. Rosa is the National Capital of the Southern Right Whale.

The bay seen from above

Caminho do Rei takes about two hours, with an open view over both of Rosa's coves. The Praia Vermelha trail leads to an almost-private lookout, one of the best spots for whale-watching in season.

Shallow, warm, vast

The lagoon is minutes away, shallow and warm, and it's the house's favourite sunset. We have SUP boards and a kayak for guests, just take them.

Market on Wednesdays and Saturdays

The Centrinho has a bakery, a market, cafés and a handful of restaurants we've known forever. Morning means the port of Imbituba for fish; afternoon, the market. No malls, no rush.

Getting there

Ninety-five kilometres
between the plane and the door.

Fly into Florianópolis. From there, an hour and a half on the road, BR-101 south, along the Santa Catarina coast. The last minutes are already on a dirt road, under a tunnel of trees that gives the house its name.

The slope sits between Ibiraquera Lagoon and the Atlantic, three hundred metres from the ocean. These are the exact coordinates of our entrance, where the asphalt ends and the dirt trail begins.

What's the minimum stay?

Three nights at the Upper House and two nights at the Lower House. In high season (December to February and Brazilian holidays) we may ask for longer stays.

Are pets welcome?

Yes, well-behaved dogs are welcome, please just let us know at booking so we can arrange the details.

Is there parking?

Each house has private parking on the property, next to its entrance.

How far is the sea?

Three hundred metres. About a five-minute walk on a dirt trail, under the trees.
